About Our Class
Kindergarten Art instruction includes compositions created with shapes and lines. Students create artworks based on simple shapes and lines. Students will develop portraits and landscapes using a variety of materials and artistic techniques. Students will begin to analyse works of art and critique their own work as well as their peers.
1st Grade Art instruction focuses on creating artworks influenced by famous artists such as Picasso and Matisse. Students will develop original works of art using a variety of materials.
2nd Grade Art instruction focuses on composition design using shapes and lines. Students will develop skills that will allow them to decide what makes a good artwork. Students will learn about specific genres and periods of art.
3rd Grade Art instruction focuses on the cultural dimensions of the arts. Students will become familiar with art styles and famous works from around the world.
4th Grade Art instruction allows students to tune into specific art styles such as surrealism, expressionism and impressionism. Students will start to create works in these styles of art and develop their own style.
5th Grade Art instruction focuses on curriculum learned throughout the students elementary experience. Students will be able to create realistic works based on their own preference. Students will be able to talk about art in a critical way.
