ELA
Third Grade focuses on reading to learn. Students will work on strengthening strategies and skills to continue to grow as readers.
Students are also growing as writers and are encouraged to look to their reading to help strengthen and support their writing.
Our focus this year will be:
- Comprehension- both literal and inferred
- Writing across the genres (narrative, opinion, and informational)
- Writing in response to reading and including text evidence to support their thinking
- Fluency
- Phonics
Math
Major mathematical focus is placed on the areas of multiplication, division and fractions. There is also heavy emphasis on solving multi-step word problems using one or more of the four mathematical operations.
Math standards include:
- Numbers and Operations in Base 10
- Measurement and Data
- Operations and Algebraic Thinking
- Numbers and Operations of Fractions
- Geometry
The expectation upon entering 3rd grade is that addition and subtraction facts have been mastered to 20. By the end of third grade the students are expected to be able to add and subtract within 1000.
This year the students are expected to become fluent
with multiplication and division facts within 100.
Social Studies
